Possum Removal Tips

Hello, my name is Sue, and I’ve just survived a possum problem! A while ago, we had a possum make its home in our roof. While I quite like possums, this one soon got to be a problem, and we knew that we had to get rid of it. I didn’t want to harm the little fella (and I knew that the possum maybe had more rights than we did as a protected species!) so I started talking to pest control specialists about how to catch the possum and have it safely relocated. We then had to make sure that our roof was possum proof to prevent this happening again. I started this blog to pass on some of the stuff we learned about catching and removing possums. If you have an unwanted possum in your home, I hope it helps you work out what to do!

What to do with a termite infestation

Termites are one of the most common pests to invade homes. Termite infestations can do thousands of dollars of damage to property and also decrease property value. This is why as soon as a termite infestation is discovered, it must be treated to prevent any further damage. It is not well known why termites choose to invade a particular property; however, it is known that termites require moisture to survive.

Identifying termite infestations

Termites invade wood and essentially destroy wooden structures of homes. They may be found in wooden cabinets or around the wooden base of a house. In the areas they have invaded, you can see material resembling mud lining the area. This material is a mix of termite saliva, faeces and soil.  All signs of termite infestation cannot be clearly identified by unqualified individuals. To get a thorough termite inspection, you need the skills of a qualified expert.

As soon as you spot termites, you should get in touch with termite pest control. In the meanwhile, you can use a general household vacuum to clear the termites in sight.

Dealing with infestations

Before deciding on a course of action, the pest control operator will take a thorough look at signs of the infestation in your home. They will then make an analysis of how severe the infestation is. Additionally, the operator will also determine which species of termite is causing the invasion.

Experts in the field will start with prevention then move onto actual treatment. They will put in place strategies to drive the termites away. If the infestation still remains a problem, they will then decide on a method of treatment, these include:

Liquid termiticide- this is placed around the home to act as a barrier and prevents the termites from entering the home.

In-ground termite monitoring and baiting- These bait systems are placed strategically around the home. The termites consume the bait and take it back to their colony. In this manner, the whole colony is given this toxic bait and can be eradicated. This is not harmful to people or animals and hence is an excellent option.

It is important to consult a business that specialises in termite pest control. This is because they will not use a one-fit-for-all approach but rather tailor the approach to suit each scenario. Termite infestations can remain undetected and cause severe damage, so if you even have a slight chance of an infestation, you should get your property checked as soon as possible.
